Yes, people really wear corsets nowadays. No, not really uncomfortable IF you get one custom made so they fit right. Most people don't lace them down quite so tight as to prevent breathing. Unless you're tightlacing, but you work into that gradually. Mine isn't extremely comfortable, but it wasn't custom. It's a bit short in the torso and large in the ribcage area, but it does the job and looks pretty darn good, imo.
