Anime review - Moyashimon
I'm gonna re-review this after I've watched it in its entirety..XD
Honestly, I wasn't going to watch this. An anime called 'Tales of Agriculture' seemed about as boring as my Biology textbook to me.
Moyashimon, however, surprises in that it has that uniquely Japanese quality that manages to make the quotidian unique. Like anime has done with Hikaru no Go (Go is amazing!), Yakitate Japan (omg, bread-making is astonishing), Beyblade (who knew spinning tops could create such fireworks?), so has it done with Moyashimon.
Microbes? Can't see 'em? No problem! Create a protagonist (Tadayasu-kun) who can, simple! And to add to the cute factor, said microbes do -not- look like those in the Transition Electron Microscope. Instead, they're cute, they have mouths, and they can actually talk. (The miso soup microbes made by Tadayasu's family address him by name.) And play, and bow, and in the OP and ED, both seemingly made by someone while rather high, (That's the only way GIMONGIMONGIMON could be explained) sing and dance.
Such is the charm of Moyashimon. Each episode is concluded with a 'microbe theatre' section, which allows the watcher to learn basic information regarding the featured microbe/s. More than just a typical university tale, Moyashimon follows the extraordinary adventure of a boy with an extraordinary gift, engaged with finding a purpose for this gift of his -- proving that sometimes, good things -do- come in small packages.
